Major Education Reform Underway

Issues:

Judging from the first few weeks of the new Texas legislative session, lawmakers are responding to calls for major education reform. Employers, educators, and parents have been calling on our state elected officials to allow for more flexibility in the high school curriculum rather than a “one size fits all” approach to education which pushes all students to go to a four-year university. Rep. Smith to President Obama: Balance the Budget

Issues:

Today, I voted in favor of legislation that requires President Obama to produce a plan for a balanced budget. The Require a PLAN Act (H.R. 444) directs the President to provide a balanced budget plan to Congress by April 1, 2013. The bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 253-167.

The President is required by law to provide Congress with a budget the first Monday in February each year. President Obama has missed this deadline four out of five years in office. Senate Democrats have not passed a budget in four years. That’s irresponsible. Read more about Rep. Smith to President Obama: Balance the Budget

Black History Month and the Importance of S.B. Fuller

This is black history month. Earlier this week, at my church anniversary celebration, I talked about the most achieved and the wisest black leader in America in the last 100 years. I had the good fortune to have worked for Mr. S.B. Fuller for 17 years before his death in 1988. If black people would have followed Mr. Fullers lead, we would not be languishing at the bottom of the economy in America today. Read more about Black History Month and the Importance of S.B. Fuller

A Step Towards Fixing Our Spending Problem

Issues:

I introduced a bill Tuesday (H.R. 504), along with my colleagues Representatives Steve Chabot (OH-01), Randy Hultgren (IL-14), David McKinley (WV-1), and Glen ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5), that will reduce the amount of money the federal government spends by at least $10 billion. Our bill will identify savings by eliminating duplicative and inefficient federal programs using the Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) 2011 report and 2012 report.

CNN's Piers Morgan Goes on a Shooting Rampage in Texas

Issues:

Piers Morgain Shooting in TexasImagine for a minute that a fierce anti-abortion person would visit a Planned Parenthood clinic and participate in an abortion to see what that experience is like. Would never happen, right? But fierce anti-gun advocate Piers Morgan marched into a Texas gun store and range yesterday and fired off a couple thousand dollars worth of ammunition faster than you can say, "Hands Up!" CNNs Piers Morgan visited Tactical Firearms in Katy, Texas yesterday and participated in firing many kinds of weapons according to owner Jeremy Alcede.   Read more about CNN's Piers Morgan Goes on a Shooting Rampage in Texas

Guns For What Purpose?

Issues:

The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. -  Adolph Hitler

Our Second Amendment in one sentence reads:

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Simple enough to understand…"the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed". It is the only amendment that states a purpose, "being necessary to the security of a free state". James Madison

NSSF Responds to Obama's "Skeet Shooting" Photo-op with Some Friendly Tips

Issues:

President Obama Shooting Skeet?

The photo shown here is circulating widely on the internet. President Obama wants you to believe he is "down with guns" so he hustled out to Camp David for a quick photo shoot (please pardon the scary gun word). Those of us who know guns, those of us who live and work in the firearms industry

Texas Judge Rules School Finance Plan UNCONSTITUTIONAL - Likely to be Overturned - School Waste Spending is the Problem!

Last year, over 600 schools in Texas filed a lawsuit against the State of Texas. These schools claimed they were underfunded, but they somehow found millions of dollars to hire lawyers and file suit against the State of Texas with the claim that the schools did not have enough money.

Yesterday, a Texas State Judge, John Dietz, ruled that the current Texas School Finance Plan is unconstitutional. This ruling is not surprising because this Judge has previously ruled against Texas School Funding Plans in 2005, and the schools bringing the current lawsuit picked his court to file the lawsuit in. This ruling will be appealed

Protecting the Second Amendment

Issues:

The nation continues to grieve with the community of Newtown, Connecticut over the attack that stole the lives of dozens of innocent children and teachers. What happened was   evil that most of us will never understand. Since then, some elites in Washington have used the Newtown tragedy for political leverage to reignite the gun control debate.
