In 1992, I was invited to go on a deep sea fishing trip off the coast of Mexico. We were to fly from Los Angeles to Guadalajara. Even though at the time one could travel to Mexico with just a driver license or birth certificate, I had a bit of a problem: having been born in Dublin, my birth certificate was written in Gaelic. I was advised to apply for a passport, just to be safe.
My parents had moved to America when I was three, willing participants in the diaspora of the Irish people seeking opportunity and a better life in America. They eventually became naturalized citizens. With their citizenship, my brother and I became citizens too…..or so I thought.
On January 22, 2013 my husband, Bill and I attended a Texas Tuesday Coffee in a senate meeting room in the US Capitol. The TTC was hosted by our US senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz. Deeply enshrined in our founding documents is the concept that our rights come from God and not the government. The Declaration of Independence proudly proclaims "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Because our rights come from God, or "our Creator" if you prefer, our Constitution was established to place restrictions on the government as to what rights we should allow to be altered or infringed upon. Late yesterday afternoon the bodies of famed American Sniper Christopher Kyle and Chad Littlefield were found on a resort and conference center located in Erath County, Texas according to Captain Jason Upshaw with the Erath County Sheriff's Office in Stephenville. Both men were allegedly killed by a suspect, now in custody, Eddie Ray Routh.
Bill and I travelled to Washington, DC for two main reasons, to visit our son and grandkids and to participate in the 40th anniversary of Roe v Wade March for Life. In fact, we planned on attending the March for Life since 2009. What we did not plan on was the freezing weather and snow. I can tell you there are not enough clothes to wear to stay warm. Groundhog Day is a quasi-official national holiday celebrated on February 2nd each year. It is also the name of a classic 1993 movie featuring Bill Murray as Phil, who must live the same day over and over until he learns a lesson or two about life. Seems like voters might want to channel Phil for a while to consider why voting for Democrat policies and government in big cities is imposing the same day over and over on their poor, suffering residents. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has called the Super Bowl "the single largest human trafficking incident in the United States." According to Forbes Magazine, the Super Bowl held in Miami, Florida in 2010 saw an estimated 10,000 prostitutes brought to the city. Many of these being under-age victims of human trafficking.
