January Book Pick: Evan Sayet’s Kindergarden of Eden

Issues:

The late, great Andrew Breitbart once described comedian Evan Sayet’s 2007 speech at the Heritage Foundation as “one of the five most important conservative speeches ever given”. Five years later that speech (How Modern Liberal’s Think) continues to receive fresh views. Most recently Sayet has taken the meat of that speech and developed and extended the premise into his first book: The Kindergarden of Eden: How the Modern Liberal Thinks.

Texas Legislature 2013 - Will Texas Finally Pass an Open Carry Law for Concealed Carry Licensees

Issues:

Woman Openly Carrying a Handgun - Photo from Marie-Claire UKDuring the 2011 Legislature, the Texas House of Representatives passed a bill out of committee that would allow licensed concealed carry permit holders the option of carrying a firearm open or concealed. The bill did not make it to the floor for a vote of the entire House. In this session, as the debate over gun control rages on at the federal level, Representative George Lavender (R-Texarkana) and Representative Chris Paddie (R-Marshall) have introduced HB 700 to bring the debate forward again. This bill will certainly gather a lot of attention as it works its way through the 2013 Legislature.

The NRA is Furious about Eric Holder's Fast and Furious Program - Why Isn't Dianne Feinstein?

Sen. Dianne Feinsteins Hypocrisy With all of the talk about gun control coming from the left and particularly from Senator Dianne Feinstein, you would think they would also have some sense of outrage about Attorney General Eric Holders refusal to cooperate with the investigation into the failed gunrunning program, Fast and Furious. The National Rifle Association (NRA) is outraged about this issue and you should be too.  Why isnt Senator Feinstein? Lets look... 2013 March For Life

Issues:

I want to welcome and thank all Texans who have made the trip to Washington to make their voices heard. We’ve taken important steps in recent years to defend life, including passage of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act and the Unborn Victims of Violence Act. I believe that all life should be treated with dignity and respect, and I am committed to doing all I can to protect innocent life. Read more about 2013 March For Life

40 Years Later: A New View On Abortion

Issues:

Forty years after the Supreme Court ruled on Roe vs. Wade, activists on both sides of the debate are still fighting for their cause. For those who are staunchly pro-life, activism includes participating in marches, debate training, and educating others about what it means to be pro-life. On college campuses pro-life groups such as the University of North Texas College Republicans host guest speakers like Dianne Edmondson,

Texas Federation of Republican Women Lead Boldly with Call for Immigration Reform and Guest Worker Program

Carolyn Hodges, TFRW PresidentLast week, the Texas Federation of Republican Women (TFRW) took another bold step showing that the Texas Republicans want to lead the way on reasonable and sensible immigration reform laws. The time has come for our nation to address this problem and to do so in a way that respects the rule of law and addresses immigration as a means of economic growth and prosperity for our state and nation. The resolution, overwhelmingly passed by the members of the TFRW board, calls for implementation of a guest worker program similar in nature to "The Texas Solution" platform of the Republican Party of Texas. Continuing to Battle Sexual Assault within the Ranks of Our Military

Issues:

As your Representative, I began working on the issue of sexual assault in the military in 2007 when we learned of the tragic story of Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach (USMC). Maria was a young woman from southwest Ohio who was serving her country honorably when she was allegedly sexually assaulted by a senior enlisted servicemember. Eight months later, she and her unborn child were murdered by that accused servicemember.

Maria’s mother Mary Lauterbach, and Dayton attorney Merle Wilberding have been integral in helping me find legislative solutions to the many problems Maria faced in the military justice system. Read more about Continuing to Battle Sexual Assault within the Ranks of Our Military

Congressman Lamar Smith to Senate: No Budget, No Pay

Issues:

Today, I supported a bill that requires the Senate to pass a budget or forfeit their pay. The No Budget, No Pay Act (H.R. 325) passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 285-144. An overwhelming majority of Texas Republicans supported the measure.

Americans across the nation set budgets for their family’s expenses. They accomplish every single day a task that the Senate has neglected for four years. A fundamental responsibility of the government is to set budgets and stick to them.

Neugebauer Statement on Debt Limit Vote

Issues:

After careful consideration, I chose not to raise our country’s debt limit and voted against increasing the debt ceiling. I don’t believe it is fair to our hardworking taxpayers to give the President a blank check to spend as he sees fit.

H.R. 325 will raise the debt ceiling until May 19, 2013, without setting any caps on how much the Administration can borrow. Although I opposed giving the President four months to spend unlimited taxpayer dollars without requiring significant spending cuts, I was supportive of other aspects of the legislation.
