Bankruptcy Courts Part 6 - Much Needed Study to Reform Chapter 11 Underway

Kenneth Klee - Mark Shapiro - DIP Financing Competition Debate

After discovering miscarriages of justice and inconsistent applications of the law when investigating the Delphi bankruptcy and its connection to the auto bailouts, I started noticing something fishy about the Chapter 11 process and bankruptcy courts in the U.S.  The mentality that is rampant in the "U.S. bankruptcy industry" revolves around theories of "foxes guarding hen houses" and the need for speed speed speed justified by the urgency of "melting ice cubes" and "rotting fish". Seriously??

Texas Bill will Give Guns to Teachers - Some School Teachers ALREADY Carry Guns - Congressman Says Armed Principal Could Have Stopped CT Massacre

Issues:

Texas State Representative Jason Villalba has announced that he will file a bill to allow teachers to have concealed handguns at schools. Should Teachers pack heat at Schools to be able to protect kids from mass shootings? I say yes, and I wrote this article a few days ago explaining why: Qualified School Officials Should be Allowed Concealed Handguns to Protect Kids from Mass Shootings - Texas Governor Perry supports it.

Many people have responded to that article. Most people agreed that it would be a good idea, but some were afraid of the unknown. Let me calm some fears. It is NOT unknown. Some school districts already allow certain teachers to have a concealed weapon. Senator Cornyn Says Farewell to Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison

Issues:

Today I spoke on the Senate floor about the retirement of U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) after representing Texas in the U.S Senate together for nearly 10 years:

This is an historic moment for many reasons. We are paying tribute to an extraordinary woman who has made history by being the first female United States Senator, and someone who spent the last two decades fighting for commonsense values here in our nations capital. John Tanton Networks like FAIR, NumbersUSA and CIS - Leftist Groups Manipulating Republicans

Groups like FAIR, NumbersUSA and the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) have long worked to deepen and widen a wedge between conservative Hispanic citizens and the Republican Party. Looking at the boards of these organization provides insight into their true agenda: That being a pro-choice, zero population growth, anti immigrant, radical environmentalist agenda from about as far left as can be seen.   Read more about John Tanton Networks like FAIR, NumbersUSA and CIS - Leftist Groups Manipulating Republicans

French Establishment Up in Arms at Actor Gérard Depardieu

Issues:

French actor Gérard Depardieu elicited a barrage of criticism for leaving France and settling in Belgium on the grounds that he has had it with “redistribution” and “paying, in 2012, an 85 percent tax-rate on my income tax.”

Writes Forbes: “The actor was heavily criticized. The Prime Minister called him a ‘pathetic’ character; the minister of labor, Michel Sapin, said he went into ‘personal degeneration’; the minister of culture, Aurélie Filippetti, was ‘totally scandalized’; the minister of the relations with the parliament, Alain Vitalies, was ‘shocked’; and the head of the Socialist Party, Harlem Désir, was ‘saddened.’” Read more about French Establishment Up in Arms at Actor Gérard Depardieu

Action Item of the Week – the Fiscal Cliff

With only two weeks until we come to the edge of the fiscal cliff, I sincerely wish I had more to tell you. Unless Congress acts, on January 1, 2013, our current tax rates will expire, and every taxpayer will face higher rates. On the same day, a series of automatic, across-the-board government spending cuts will occur. Half of those cuts would come from our defense budget, which could harm our national security. Texas Teaching 'Allah is the Almighty God'

Issues:

In the 70 percent of Texas public schools where a private curriculum has been installed, students are learning the “fact” that “Allah is the Almighty God,” charge critics of a new online curriculum that already is facing condemnation for its secrecy and restrictions on oversight.

The program, called CSCOPE, is a private venture operating under the umbrella of the Texas Education Service Center Curriculum Collaborative, whose incorporation documents state its

“Little Shop of Horrors” Comes to Life in Government Spending

Issues:

As I was reflecting upon our current fiscal situation here in Midland County, an analogy came to my mind. That analogy is the movie “Little Shop of Horrors.” For those who have not seen the movie (which ends differently than the Broadway play), here is a link to a synopsis that I have written.

If you think about the movie long enough, you will probably come up with more analogies than I did. But, here are a few of my observations: Read more about “Little Shop of Horrors” Comes to Life in Government Spending

“Little Shop of Horrors” Comes to Life in Government Spending

Issues:

Below is a synopsis of the movie “Little Shop of Horrors.”

For those who have not seen the movie (which ends differently than the Broadway play), here is a brief recap: A young man and a young woman are working in a small, struggling flower shop in New York City when they are confronted with the possible closure of the shop. The young man (who happens to have a crush on the young woman) finds a strange plant and shows it to the young lady who, in turn, suggests to the owner that he display

Cornyn Statement on the Passing of Sen. Daniel Inouye

Issues:

I issued the following statement on the passing of U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-HI), the longest-serving sitting member of the U.S. Senate:

A member of this nation’s Greatest Generation, Sen. Inouye was a decorated veteran who received the Medal of Honor for his courageous service and bravery fighting tyranny and evil on battlefields across the globe. His decades of public service on behalf of the people of Hawaii were marked with passion, honor, and selflessness. He will truly be missed. Read more about Cornyn Statement on the Passing of Sen.
