COLUMBIA, S.C. – Governor Nikki Haley today announced U.S. Rep. Tim Scott as her appointment to fill the vacancy created by United States Senator Jim DeMint’s retirement.
Flanked by U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham and U.S. Sen. DeMint – as well as U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson (SC-02), U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy (SC-04), U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney (SC-05) and U.S. Rep.-elect Tom Rice (SC-07) – the governor made today’s announcement during a Statehouse press conference as U.S. Rep. Scott’s mother, Frances Scott, looked on. Republican Congressman Ted Poe has stepped into the gauntlet! I have known Ted Poe since his days as a criminal court judge in Harris County. Why would anyone who is against the killing of innocent unborn babies ever consider voting for Joe Straus? Joe Straus is not pro life. He voted against pro life issues before he became Speaker and enjoyed support from Planned Parenthood. Now that he is the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, he does not vote on bills. He certainly has not publicly stood up for pro life issues as Speaker; and in the past as Speaker, he has called it only a "wedge issue."
The pro life legislation that passed in the 2011 Texas Legislative Session passed, not because of him, but in spite of him. Straus did not stand against it because he knew the pro life bills would pass anyway with a super-majority of Republicans in the Texas Legislature. He also did not stand for them though and given different circumstances, like fewer Republicans in the House, I believe Straus would stop playing to the super-majority and play both sides because he will need the Democrats in a split house.

GE President Jeffrey Immelt, like New York Times Tom Friedman and former SEIU leader Andy Stern before him, noted that Chinese government, “actually works, state run Communism may not be your cup of team, but their government works.” Okay, I made the case recently that the Democratic Party has evolved into our Socialist party, and when Immelt talks of how the Chinese communism system works, it merely reinforces my point that the left really has no problems with authoritarian governments. Two years ago, a US Border Patrol BORTAC Team was responding to a sensor alert in the Peckwell/Rio Ricco sector of Southern Arizona. This region was known to have violent Mexican gangs known as RIP Crews. These RIP Crews would roam these mountains preying on other drug smugglers and human trafficking coyotes. Thursday I spoke on the Senate floor about the President’s insistence on raising taxes and the need to cut spending as part of an agreement to avert the fiscal cliff.
