Update on the Latest in the Senate from Senator Ted Cruz

Issues:

In this new year, we remain committed to listening to the people and implementing real solutions that will create more jobs, growth, and opportunity.

On January 1, Obamacare took full effect, and it is hurting millions of Americans across our great nation. Young people, the self-employed, part-time workers, and many others are feeling the burden of this misguided law first hand. True relief will come only through repealing every last word of Obamacare.

Fighting Human Trafficking in Texas

Issues:

January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a sobering reminder that even as we enter the year 2014, people around the world continue to be victims of slavery and human trafficking.

Tragically, these horrendous crimes are occurring at an alarming rate in our own state. 25% of human trafficking victims are located in Texas. Read more about Fighting Human Trafficking in Texas

Harris County Judge Ed Emmett Endorses Paul Simpson for Party Chair

Issues:

In what may become the most important election for the future of Harris County Republican Party politics, County Judge Ed Emmett has fired a shot across the bow of current Party Chair Jared Woodfill's ship of state with his endorsement of challenger Paul Simpson.

In a phone conversation with Judge Emmett yesterday, he explained to me that he believes there is a different way to grow and sustain a viable Republican Party in Harris County than that being offered by the current administration led by County Chair Jared Woodfill. Crisis Management, Chris Christie Style

Issues:

This week, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was presented with an unexpected opportunity to show people how he responds to a crisis. News that some of his top aides were involved with creating traffic problems in Ft. Lee in retaliation for its mayor not endorsing the governor’s re-election bid contained all the ingredients for a serious scandal for a national figure. Dick Armey Endorses Jerry Patterson for Lieutenant Governor

Issues:

The following was sent in from Dick Armey:

I'm writing you today to ask for you to join me in endorsing and supporting Jerry Patterson for Lieutenant Governor of Texas.

I believe Jerry Patterson is the clear choice because he will be a bold leader for Texas. Jerry is a champion for conservative goals and a proven statesman who will keep Texas strong against the threats from Washington, D.C. and the Obama Administration.

Ever since I retired from Congress in 2003, I have worked hard to support true conservatives who will fight back against the exploding growth of federal and state bureaucracy. Read more about Dick Armey Endorses Jerry Patterson for Lieutenant Governor

"Stupid Judge Tricks" - Dallas District Court Judge Charged with Strangling Girlfriend

Issues:

Stupid Judge TricksWhat is it with Democrat officials and candidates and domestic violence against women? Perhaps this is the real "War on Women". Remember last election when the Democrat candidate for Harris County District Attorney, Lloyd Oliver, equated domestic violence with sexual foreplay saying that for some people "part of their making love is to beat one another up"? This week's "Stupid Judge Tricks" award has to go to Dallas County's 44th Civil District Court Judge Raul Cortez who, according to a report in the New York Daily News, attempted to strangle his girlfriend.  Of course he claims the high road by saying he was just trying to save her life.   Read more about "Stupid Judge Tricks" - Dallas District Court Judge Charged with Strangling Girlfriend

Where is the Farm Bill Headed in 2014?

We’re continuing the negotiations to reconcile the House and Senate versions of the Farm Bill. The 2008 Farm Bill expired in September of 2012, and our one-year extension of that bill expired this past September. So we’re on borrowed time. The good news is that we’re getting close to a deal.

I’m hopeful that the Farm Bill Conference Committee can get together to vote on a final bill sometime
