Cruz is like Chocolate; Dewhurst is like Vanilla

Just before the June 22, 2012 DEBATE:

In the photo above Ted Cruz is seen smiling and standing straightforward facing David Dewhurst. The opposite is true about Dewhurst. He is not smiling and his body is not facing Cruz; instead he is standing away, having to reach over to shake hands. It is a very telling moment; it appears that Dewhurst is not willing to stand alongside grassroots favorite Cruz. As the July 31st run-off election date for the US Senate approaches, the attack ads will intensify.

Congressman Ted Poe Discusses Supreme Court Arizona Immigration Law Decision, Contempt of Congress and More

This month has brought several clashes of Constitutional power, delegation of authority and ultra vires acts. Last week, Attorney General Eric Holder was cited for contempt of Congress by the House Oversight Committee, President Obama made up new law by creating a new guest worker program, and this week the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) ruled on Arizona's fight with the Obama Administration over immigration enforcement, and it will likely rule on ObamaCare. Several conflicts where the showdown of federal authority and jurisdiction are testing the very bounds of our Constitution. The Beginning of the End?

Issues:

WashingtonToday, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision in Arizona v. United States, voting 5-3 to block most provisions of Arizona's controversial policing law but upholding the one of most concern to immigrant rights activists: the section that requires police to inquire about the immigration status of people they stop for other reasons who they suspect are in the country illegally. ImmigrationWorks USA president Tamar Jacoby made the following statement. Read more about The Beginning of the End?

Congressman Smith on Arizona Supreme Court Ruling

Issues:

The U.S. Supreme Court today upheld one of the four provisions challenged in the Arizona’s immigration law (S.B. 1070). Specifically, the Court ruled that Arizona’s local law enforcement can ask for proof of residency if they have reasonable suspicion the person is an illegal immigrant. Unfortunately, the Court overturned provisions of the Arizona law that allowed state law enforcement officials to help address illegal immigration in the absence of federal action.   Read more about Congressman Smith on Arizona Supreme Court Ruling

“In My Second Term, I Guess I’ll Pass It Again”

Executive Privilege And The Stonewalling Of Fast And Furious Information

Issues:

Texas Congressman Ted Poe speaks on the House Floor regarding Fast and Furious and Obamas use of executive privilege:

Mr. Speaker, the government continues to hide the evidence of the Fast and Furious gun running scheme.

The attorney general says he doesn’t know who authorized this reckless and deadly operation, but he still conceals documents to show what occurred.

The Myth of ‘Executive Privilege’

Issues:

Historian Kevin Gutzman discusses “executive privilege.” A few snippets:

The Executive Branch was intended by the Constitution’s authors and ratifiers to be precisely that – the executor of policies made by Congress, not a competing power center empowered to thwart Congress’s attempts to gain information.
If the Executive can simply refuse to allow Executive Branch personnel to testify before Congress and refuse to pursue congressional contempt referrals, Congress will be altogether unable to perform its legislative functions. It will be subordinate to the Presidency in the way that Parliament was subordinate to English kings before the establishment of Parliament’s unlimited power to investigate in the 17th century….

My Personal Journey To Tampa Bay, Florida The National Convention

Issues:

This is my personal journey to the Republican National Convention in Tampa Bay, Florida, August 27 – 31, 2012. It is my perspective and is meant only to describe what actions were taken by me and the circumstances taken to achieve my goal.

It did occur to me to go to the National Convention in 2008 as a volunteer, but it was just a passing thought. The delegates in 2008 experienced the exhilarating announcement of Sarah Palin as our vice president and, truthfully, I want to be present when Mitt Romney announces his choice for vice president. Myths and Legends of the Immigration Plank of the 2012 Platform

Issues:

Since the 2012 Republican Party of Texas Convention ended almost two weeks ago, there has been a lot of misinformation being spread about what the 2012 Platform (and especially the Immigration Plank) really says and what has been taken out. It is my hope that I can set the record straight about what happened on the Platform Committee and why it happened.
