The Beginning of Ethics Reform

Issues:
Tags:

I began pondering the concept of ethics as it relates to politics this last week and immediately the old adage “power corrupts” came to my mind. A short Google search revealed that the phrase is attributed to one Lord Acton whose entire quote went something like this: “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.” As I further pondered this, I too considered the condition of man’s soul. Is man basically evil? I first considered this very question in Ms. Brown’s literature class when we were reading Golding’s Lord of the Flies.

Ted Cruz: spin, spin, spin

At work on Monday morning, I received a call on my cell phone from Jessica with the Ted Cruz campaign, stumbling over “Mrs. Nuckols” and offering me the chance to be a “host” at their fundraiser next week.

I guess someone didn’t get the memo that I switched my support to Texas’ Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst for Texas Senator months ago. Or that after being invited by several emails and phone calls – two on my cell phone, a couple at home – I challenged Mr. Cruz at a “meet and greet” here in New Braunfels back in May. Jessica’s call inspired me to revive this post I’ve been editing, on and off, since June 1.

Why would I change from one candidate to the other, even after donating money? Read more about Ted Cruz: spin, spin, spin

Vote PASSES, Eric Holder in CONTEMPT - Obama Executive Privilege & "Evolving Truth" No Good in Fast and Furious

Issues:

The House Oversight Committee has just passed a Resolution 23 to 17 holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt for not releasing Fast and Furious documents.

The contempt charge now goes to the entire House for a vote on holding Holder in contempt before it is sent to prosecution.

The committee even passed an amendment with many reasons why Obama's executive privilege is not valid.

The Committee hearing was very interesting. The Democrats, like Reps Towns and Rep Norton, tried to say that the Committee should give more time to Eric Holder because Holder is willing to work with the committee to release some documents. Statement From Congressman Poe On Fast And Furious Update

Issues:

It has been eighteen months since the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and the Attorney General claims he still doesn’t know who authorized the reckless and deadly Operation Fast and Furious. He maintains that it wasn’t him. But he still won’t produce the documents to Congress to prove it.

President Obama, noticeably silent about Operation Fast and Furious all along has claimed that he was never aware or involved. But in an eleventh hour maneuver just minutes before Congress began the process to hold the Attorney General in Contempt of Congress, President Obama, leader of the self-proclaimed “most transparent Administration in history”, asserted his Executive Privilege to withhold documents from Congress. Constable Ron Hickman Discusses Endorsement Slates and Negative Campaign Tactics

During the runup to the Texas Republican Primary last month, we all received tons of mail soliticing our votes. Some of these were campaign materials from candidates. Of those, some were postitive about the candidate and some were very negative attacks on their opponent. There were also mailers from what politicos call "The Slates". The Slates are the many various groups or individuals who evaluate candidates and make an endorsement of a slate of candidates.   Read more about Constable Ron Hickman Discusses Endorsement Slates and Negative Campaign Tactics

The Man or the Mule

A Farmer gets up early one morning, goes to his barn, feeds and hitches his mule, then goes to plow his field. He works all day but at the end of the day, he has only plowed half of the field. He takes his mule back into the barn, unhitches and feeds him, then goes back into his house. The next morning, the farmer is sick, and he can’t get out of bed.

Disqualified

When I hear or read the term “disqualified” I immediately think of some sporting event where a competitor in the event is either penalized or disqualified from that specific event for violating the preset rules of that activity. In boxing, certain punches are not permitted. Unethical actions within the ring are met initially with warnings, then point deductions and then a full disqualification. The most famous boxing disqualification came on June 28, 1997 in the Tyson vs. Holyfield match. In that match, Tyson was first penalized two points for biting Holyfield’s right ear. Shortly thereafter, Tyson bit Holyfield’s other ear. Referee Mills Lane examined the second bite and immediately disqualified Tyson. Read more about Disqualified

The Only Good Conservative is a Dead Conservative

Issues:

Jonah Goldberg recently made the observation that for many liberals, the best conservative role models are dead conservatives. As Goldberg noticed that many liberal ideal conservatives, “always exited yesterday.” Jeb Bush's recent statement on “Reagan not being able to get elected in today’s GOP” was not, as Goldberg notice, not one of Bush’s better moment. Goldberg wrote, “Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush reignited the topic by lamenting how Reagan couldn’t be nominated today because the GOP has become too rigid and ideological for even the Gipper. I think Jeb Bush is one of the best conservative politicians

Sen. Cornyn Statement On Juneteenth

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today issued the following statement in honor of Juneteenth. Sen. Cornyn is a cosponsor of a Senate resolution introduced by Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, and Carl Levin, D-MI, that would designate June 19th, Juneteenth Independence Day, as a National Day of Observance.

I hope all Texans will join me in celebrating Juneteenth, commemorating the emancipation of slaves in the United States

Obama the Evil Transformer

President Obama Speaks on Department of Homeland Security Immigration Announcement

It is unimaginable what took place Friday in the name of being “the right thing to do for the American people” as Barack Hussein put it. We saw the making of a dictator and the continued transformation of America. Barack Hussein also brought out his crystal ball when he justified his statement by saying that “these young people are going to make extraordinary contributions and are already making contributions to our society.” He also mentioned, ‘economic and security needs.' What? It is unfathomable that anyone would even dare destroy our rule of law. Read more about Obama the Evil Transformer
