The late Milton Friedman predicted the demise of the euro within a decade and his prophecy is not far off as European experience is about to blow up. The euro was the experiment that was to unite all of Europe, the final effort to wipe out past history of wars and conflict. Governor Rick Perry addressed the Texas delegation on the first day of the convention Thursday, June 7. As usual his speech was motivational and geared to ‘Keep Texas Republican.’ He enumerated accomplishments from the past and looks to the future of Texas as a leader. “We need a president who believes in us again,” he remarked. It was an inspiring speech but somewhere towards the middle as he endorsed Lt Gov David Dewhurst, the mere mention of that name brought a spontaneous BOO! The grating BOO engulfed the arena taking 15 seconds to die down.
Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus had to play some dirty tricks at the State Convention in order to keep from being humiliated by the silent walkout that was planned against him. He wrongly used fellow State Reps as pawns and shields. Joe Straus did not leave the Convention without humiliation though, because Straus was rejected from being a National Delegate! The recent gaffe by Obama that the private sector is doing fine can’t really be described a gaffe but an insight in the soul of Obama and how he truly views America. An interesting thing happened in the world of Texas politics this week. It is pretty rare for a sitting Congressman to make an endorsement of a candidate for Congress in a contested race in the Republican Primary. In the race for CD14, candidate Felicia Harris has pulled off not one such endorsement, but two! I have been watching this race to replace the retiring Ron Paul in the US House of Representatives with some interest for several months. We see some crazy Ron Paul people on the news and we paint the entire group as being crazy. It is like these bad cops who think they are above the law and they break the law and do things like beating people up on video. That is why some people hate cops when, in fact, most cops are doing a great job and risking their lives for us. The problem is that the few bad cops you see on TV unfairly make all cops look bad.
