114th Congress

The 114th Congress is the current meeting of the legislative branch of the federal government. It will meet in Washington, D.C. from January 3, 2015 to January 3, 2017, during the final two years of Obama's presidency and with Republicans in control of both the Senate and House.

On Wednesday the House passed H.R. 351, the LNG Permitting Certainty and Transparency Act. For far too long this Administration has hindered our nation’s ability to become energy independent.
Eighteen of my House colleagues and I toured our Southern Border recently. We heard success stories about interagency cooperation in the San Diego section, the frustration of ranchers in Arizona, and concerns about another...
This past weekend, I joined a group of my colleagues to inspect critical areas of the southwest border and see first-hand how we can best achieve security and defeat any threats to our nation. The tour took us to McAllen,...
I recently re-introduced legislation that would expand Interstate 69 to include Texas State Highway 44. This bill would designate State Highway 44 as a future segment of I-69, known as the “44 to 69 Act.” Under this...
That difference especially once again highlighted the divide that exists among Republicans on the topic of immigration reform. Curbelo, for example, campaigned on a promise to tackle immigration reform. He recently joined...
It’s ironic in a lot of ways because the President came to the people's House to give his State of the Union speech. That's the House of Representatives. But his speech was anything but ‘for the people.’
Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) just introduced the bipartisan Immigration Innovation Act (I-Squared), which aims to liberalize and expand the immigration system for highly skilled workers. As virtually all the research shows,...
Just a couple of months ago the President said his policies were on the ballot. And they were resoundingly rejected. The American people know better and this kind of spin and cheerleading really ignores the fact that wages...
For the past six years President Obama has repeated worn out liberal campaign slogans instead of putting forth common sense, realistic solutions to fix our nation’s biggest problems. Tonight’s State of the Union Address was...
On January 8, 1790, President George Washington delivered the first State of the Union address. In the 225 years since his address, the American Republic that the Founders left us has largely disappeared. There is very...
Following news reports last week that as many as 50 data mining companies were provided direct access to monitor information entered on the HealthCare.gov website, I sent several letters seeking an explanation.
When many people hear about human trafficking, you think about something that doesn't happen here in America; it happens somewhere else. You might envision brothels in foreign cities or girls being smuggled across other...
Last week, I introduced H.R. 428, the Export American Natural Gas Act of 2015. This bipartisan bill would expedite the Department of Energy approval process for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. I also introduced this...
On Thursday, I introduced two bills to protect our national security and support our men and women in uniform.
I will join a group of Members of Congress, led by House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX), on a visit to the southwest border from January 22nd to January 26th.
The President addressed the Union Tuesday night, promising more government, more spending, and more taxes.Obviously the President did not read the November memo from America. The majority of the Union rejected the President'...
Mr. Speaker, Mr. Vice President, Members of Congress, my fellow Americans:
Sadly, the President has doubled down on the same agenda, which in his own words was on the ballot this last fall and was soundly rejected. But this agenda and these policies are not only wrong for America today, they're...
