Council Members Jones and Costello square off over Rain TaxIt has only been a few days since voters approved by a very narrow margin, the Proposition 1 "Rain Tax" and already voters are feeling duped.  Renew Houston put this proposal on the ballot with a Nancy Pelosi style of "We have to pass it to see what's in it!"  And now the unveiling begins.   Read more »

Voters Send a Message - Proposition 1 is not a mandate for massive runaway spending programs

By less than a 2% margin, voters passed the controversial Proposition 1 "Rain Tax" bill. Now perhaps, we will get to see what's in it. The narrow margin by which this passed should send a message to the Mayor and City Council. This is not a mandate. You do not have a blank check.   Read more »

StopPROP1 Launches New Radio Ad Featuring Houston City Council Members Against Proposition 1

Proposition 1 is not a Republican vs Democrat issue.  It is not a Conservative vs Liberal issue.  It is an issue about what is good public policy for the City of Houston for the next (at least) forty years.  In this radio ad which started on the air today, Council Members Jolanda Jones, C. O. Bradford, Wanda Adams and Jarvis Johnson joined with the "Tax Man" Paul Bettencourt to express opposition to Proposition 1 because it is a poorly conceived program with little if any protection for taxpayers who are already stretched too thin financially.

This "Rain Tax" will negatively affect every homeowner, business, church, school, hospital and other charity in the City of Houston causing some people to pay this tax multiple times through their churches and schools.   Read more »

WATCH pastor's retort after Houston Proposition 1 big spending promoter says "YOUR CHURCHES WILL FAIL"!

"You can't do indirectly what the law says you can't do directly" by calling this new TAX a FEE!  That's what one moral and law-abiding pastor respectfully retorts (VIDEO) after "Renew Houston" and Proposition 1 special interest promoter Bob Jones proclaimed, "... your churches will fail" if Proposition 1 is not passed. The attendees didn't buy it and instead blew the whistle on more special interest spending at the recent Houston Pastors luncheon addressing Proposition 1.  Mr. Jones, co-founder of civil engineer law firm Jones & Carter, tried to persuade pastors their "churches would fail" if massive new fee-and-spend scheme "Proposition 1" doesn't pass on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at the polls.  Bob Jones substituted for City Councilman Stephen Costello, a civil engineer and promoter of the proposed fee, spending and government expansion of Renew Houston.

Response to Houston Chronicle Editorial, "Vote for Proposition 1 to fix a broken drainage system"

"Shut up, he explained," That is Kevin Shanley's October 22nd response to the thousands of concerned citizens, businesses, non-profits, churches, and school districts who have dared to criticize or oppose "Proposition 1."

Apparently, we should be ashamed of ourselves for opposing this measure when its supporters cannot document any of their answers to very simple questions: 1. What will it cost Houston residents? 2. How will the money be spent? and 3. How will the City be held accountable for spending the money on its intended purpose?

StopPROP1 rolls out a MONSTER AD!

The media guys at StopPROP1.com have rolled out another great video showing what a MONSTER Houston's Proposition 1 will be. The "Rain Tax" that will be imposed on every person, business, church, school, hospital and charitable organization in Houston will be a monstrous growth of city government. It is an Obama/Pelosi style proposition that hides all the details until after the proposition passes.   Read more »
