The Left Loves Control

After the legislature gives the Emperor unlimited power in the Third Star Wars and the whole assembly breaks out in applause, Padme commented, “That is how democracy dies, with applause.” In a recent Scientific American, the following words were uttered, “Human societies must now change course and steer away from critical tipping points in the Earth system that might lead to rapid and irreversible change. This requires fundamental reorientation and restructuring of national and international institutions toward more effective Earth system governance and planetary stewardship….. To be effective, a new set of institutions would have to be imbued with heavy-handed, transnational enforcement powers.”

Wow, this happened right here in southeast Texas.

A theater arts department professor, Linda Ozmun, at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX had no problem doing her job. She was teaching kids about theater arts. That was her job and she was doing it just fine. The school wanted more than that though.

“We have come a long way trying to KILL THE BILL since August of 2009, to no avail. It has continued to resurrect. We deemed the Health Care Bill immoral in July 2009 and have known of its pending economic doom for some time now. And yet the Bill hangs on like a nasty booger.” I wrote this on Friday, March 19, 2010 just days before it was signed into law. Read more about Obamacare Vs. Supreme Court

An Open Convention Over Romney

Sorry. I'm not playing ball. Oh, I'll vote for Mitt Romney if he's nominated, but I'd be happier voting for thousands of other Americans. Heck, I'd be happier voting for thousands of other Americans THAT I'VE KNOWN PERSONALLY.

I listen to a few talk radio programs. I finally dropped one when he manifested himself as an old-fashioned political calculator, disdaining all of Romney's challengers. A while later, I stopped listening to my favorite host when he went wobbly on Romney.

Obamacare and Its Meanings

The recent debate about Obamacare highlights a significant issue that is yet on the radar screen but will be when the Courts make their decision on whether Obamacare is constitutional or not. What is at risk is the Constitution and its meaning. Over the past several decades, there have been movements toward a “living constitution,” essentially tearing up the constitution decision by decision. Over the past years, we have seen private property

Inside the Supreme Court

Over the past three days the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the cases challenging the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act. We won’t find out until June if the justices will uphold the law, overturn portions of it, or strike down the entire law.

I attended Wednesday morning’s arguments and listened to the arguments for and against severability. Severability refers to whether the Court can strike down parts of the law or whether the Court must deal with the law in its entirety. Read more about Inside the Supreme Court

An Open Response to "H-1B Visas Take American Jobs" by Phyllis Schlafly

The criticism by Phyllis Schlafly of the H-1B visa classification in H-1B Visas Take American Jobs is misplaced and is never put in any context so that the reader can appreciate the significance of the H-1B visa program. The H-1B visa is a temporary non-immigrant work visa restricted to professionals within a specialty occupation who are being paid at least the prevailing wage for the position as established by the United States Department of Labor. As a practical matter, the U. S. Department of Labor’s determination is always on the high side. Most employers’ reaction to the prevailing wage is that it is significantly above what is paid within their experience.
